Resumen
This volume provides an exploration of the latest developments in Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), an area of linguistics developed by Michael Halliday (1925-2018). Combining different aims and perspectives, chapters cover key issues on intercultural and contrastive aspects of language, and are organised in four thematic areas dealing with the description of self, identity, polyphony and alignment in discourse, with applications of SFL to education, with the analysis of theme and with the description of patterns, functions, modes and choice in discourse. The selection of papers, authored by international experts in the field, constitutes a representative panoply of the contributions presented at the 27th European Systemic Functional Linguistics Conference, which took place at the University of Salamanca (Spain) from June 29th to July 1st, 2017.
